Job offer: Project Leader

The New Brunswick Coalition for Pay Equity and the Committee for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women (CAAW) are looking for a Project Leader to oversee their "Building Indigenous Partnerships for Pay Equity" project.

This project will build capacity to improve New Brunswick Indigenous women’s income and pay equity in NB First Nations communities, with First Nation communities and Indigenous organizations.

The New Brunswick Coalition for Pay Equity is a group of individuals and organizations advocating for the right to pay equity and fair working conditions for women.

CAAW, its main partner for this project, is a community-based group of professional women that has undertaken woman-centred projects to benefit Indigenous women and girls since 1997.

The project is funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada.

 

Overview

The Project Leader will work under the supervision of the Coalition’s Executive Director and with the guidance of project partners.

Tasks will include:

  • Coordinating an Indigenous Awareness Training for the Coalition staff and board about Indigenous history, culture, legal contexts with a contracted trainer;
  • Working in partnership with project consultants to implement the project;
  • Establishing and supporting a joint advisory research committee with key Indigenous organizations in order to oversee research to describe and understand the unique situation of First Nations peoples with respect to pay equity;
  • Exploring with First Nations how we could co-develop an approach to ensure pay equity in First Nations communities;
  • Developing and sharing information about the project and knowledge about pay equity in First Nations communities;
  • Preparing a report on the project for the funders;
  • Participating in the Coalition’s collective work and activities.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor or equivalent experience in a relevant field: Indigenous studies, social work, sociology, women and gender studies
  • Knowledge and experience working with First Nations communities and organizations
  • Knowledge of the Mi'kmaq, Wolastoqey or Peskotomuhkati history, languages and cultures
  • Network of contacts within First Nations communities and organizations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Experience in project management
  • Strong organizational skills, considerable initiative and autonomy
  • Ability to work in teams and in partnership
  • Valid driver’s license

Ideal candidate profile / Assets

  • Knowledge of Indigenous, women and gender issues in the NB labour market
  • Knowledge of French language

Working conditions
  • Wages: $25.50 to $28.75 per hour (higher compensation may be negotiated, based on education and experience)
  • 29 hours per week, from May 27, 2024, to March 28, 2025
  • Flexible working hours, but occasional evening and week-end work
  • Office located at 236 St. George Street, Moncton
  • Possibility of doing hybrid or remote work
  • Occasional travel within the province
  • Women-centred environment
